What a year!!

Haven't blogged for the longggeessstttt time! Thanx to overloading workload and the attempt to multitask that with completing renovation for the new baby.

Centrepoint South has finally hit our shores and since the boss is on leave, I'm left to man the whole thing by myself. Work has been literally CRAZIE for the past one month. Dealing with Centrepoint South alone is tough and the fact that I still have Plaza Permata in my curry-pot makes it even tougher. I keep forgetting the issues that I need to attend to in PP, important issues mind u! So much so I have to set countless reminders in my mobile and Microsoft Outlook. I have not have this much work to do from the day I started work! For the first time, all my 3 in-trays are filled with unattended documents, mails, orders, variation orders, invoices, memos etc. Tried clearing them off before calling it a day (or rather, a year) yesterday; but to no avail :P

Then again, I'm not really complaining coz I've learnt alot from this experience. I've understood why some subordinates hate their bosses and call them hypocrites coz they throw all their responsibilities to you and take the credit, I've learnt that I cant trust anyone at all to help me with my workload, I've learnt that even you think you have planned all contingency plans, something will still happen to blow the whole beautiful picture out of perspective, and most of all, I've learnt to manage a whole brand new completed building.

This is the first time I'm left to handle a newly completed (it's actually partially completed) building by myself. Of course the Senior GM is there if there are really super major issues... but I cant run to the SGM everytime I have problems, can I? Though my problems seem real huge to me, it might just be something really tiny to him! In the process of getting ready to recept Centrepoint South, I've played a managerial role to allocate/distribute manpower enough to have a clean, secure, safe, comfortable and efficient office premise. I've employed guards, interviewed cleaners, hired maintenance personnels, ordered toilet accessories (handryers, dispensers, dustbins, sanitarybins etc), handled tenancy agreements and most importantly (something that I've not done before), learnt to read/comment/reject renovation plans submitted by tenants' Interior Designers & Contractors.

I've learnt to determine the efficiency of the fire fighting equipments within the building, the supply of cool air within the building, the running-escape way in compliance of Bomba's requirements, electrical/telecommunication routings and what nots. For the first time, I'm dealing with difficult IDs and contractors, yelling at the top of my lungs and scolding them for doing whatever that's illegal in the building and comment on renovation plans that are submitted by them. I've learnt to see what's the correct number of sprinklers that are needed in an office premise, what are the amount of supply/return air-conditioning ducts needed in an office in order to ensure sufficient cool air, learnt to negotiate with my main-con to demand for additional requirements that are supposedly given to us as Landlord and finally, learnt to accept scolding from many different parties and treat as if they're singing and not give a sh*t at what they shouted at me! :)

It's the first time also that I encountered non-stop telephone calls from 9am - 6.30pm daily. Dearie has to help charge my mobile everynight as every evening my mobile will turn off automatically. Battery will sleep before I do everynight and the process repeats the next day. Every morning, mobile will start ringing at 9am.. angry contractors/workers shouting at the other end coz they cant get lifts to load their materials, cant get access to the loading bay, and all other un-imagine-able problems. This will go on the entire day - lunch time unspared. In between all these yelling, discussions, arguments, PP's people will call and present more problems at that end (lifts broke down, pipe burst, tenants not paying, fire door not up, etc etc). Exciting isn't it? The day is soooo filled that I no longer have time to read forwarded emails, log on to msn or even read blogs in the office (something that I happily do in office before the month of November 06 :P ) hehe..

Well, anyhow, I have to conclude that year 2006 is really quite a good year. Despite a few scary/down moments (snipped my finger, fell sick numerous times!), I still benefited and had a good time. Most of the resolutions made in the beginning of the year have somewhat been fulfilled or at least partially fullfilled; namely, started renovation (and almost completed it), learnt alot from work, visited a few places (tioman, singapore, genting) and started writing my valuer's log book. The only thing that I have not manage to do - loose weight :P Not too sure if I've managed to maintain my weight though.. dont remember how heavy I was last year.. haha.. nvm.. shall carry forward this reso :)

Okie... will blog abt the Xmas Singapore trip next. Gonna makan now...
