Darling girl's major milestone!
Anne has requested for her own bedroom ever since CNY, saying that she will be ready to sleep on her own after her 6th birthday. All along last year, she told us she would be ready to do it when she starts standard 1.
When it got nearer to her birthday, I tried my luck to see if she really wanted her own room and she said yes. So to make her more enthusiastic, I allowed her to repaint 2 sides of her room wall with colours that she can choose entirely herself. Being the very good che che, she allowed Jyn to choose the color for 1 side while she chose the other. Naturally, Jyn chose Blue and she chose Pink :)
2 weekends before her birthday, we started clearing the room and repainted it. After that, we started putting on the wall stickers I bought to make the room more kiddo-friendly.
Finally.. on 6 Sept, almost a month into preparing her mentally that the room is ready for her, she & I slept in the new room together. There are 2 single beds.. one on top and one to be pulled out fr the main bed. She would sleep on the main bed on top while I bunk in on the pull-out bed.
She loves her room and ensured everything is clean and tidy. She makes her own bed in the morning and ensure all her toys are all properly 'sleeping' before she goes to bed herself :)
I slept with her for 5 full nights before playing the game of waiting for her to fall asleep then slip back into my own room.. hehe..
At first she wasnt quite comfortable when I told her I'd return to my room once she was asleep. So I told her no worries. I will sleep with her until she is ready.
Then the following day, I told her 'Anne, do u know that I went back to my room ytday after u have fallen asleep? But of course I came back into your room to see if u were ok.. and i woke u up in the morning. So u saw me before u slep and u saw me again the first thing in the morning. So how did u feel? Can you sleep on your own now?"
I guess she was impressed by herself that she could be a big girl.. so she gave me a wide bright smile and said ok.. i can go back to my own room once she falls asleep :)
So yea.. 1 week into my darling baby girl moving to her own room now.. I am still typing this in her room while waiting for her to fall into deep sleep. Such a big milestone.. not only just for her.. but for me as well. I wanted to make this as easy as possible for her and to let her know that we are not 'kicking' her out from our room; but merely just guiding her to what's being like growing up and having her own space.
So far, she seems to be really enjoying her room and her space. I hope this lasts.. and a tip to all parents.. making the room to the way the kiddo wants it (and not how we want it) certainly makes it easier for them :)
