The New Home

ok... quite abit to update here. Especially on the new place that we call Home :) Will have to refresh my memory while I still can so that I remember what we've done before moving in and can relate the stories to my grand children when they ask "grandma, grandma, what were the chinese rituals you did before moving into a new house?" :p

o'Right... here goes
- 14/4/07
Dearie and I consulted Mrs. Chung (a.k.a Irene's mommy :) ) on the right date/time to move into the new place.

The date that was supposedly blessed for both of us was at 21/4/07 between 7.30am to 10.30am. But before moving in, we had to perform some task 4 days earlier.

- and so... on 15/4/07 (Sunday)
Both of us bought the stuff listed down for us by Mrs. Chung and went ahead with the chinese customs thingy.

We mixed rice, salt, tea leaves and coins together and placed at ALL corners within the house. Started from the 1st floor to the ground floor, we covered each and every single corner by putting sekumpulan of those mixed items there. These things are suppose to be left for 3 days. It's believed to suck off all the bad/negative chi inside the new house.

On Wednesday, Dearie and I took half day leave to clear away the above. We're to sweep & throw away all the salt/rice and mop the house after doing so. From doing so, our house would be "clean" and comfy when we move in.

- 20/4/07 (pre-moving in date)
We went to the house and turned on one light at each area of the house. These lights are to be lefted on until 12noon on 21/4/07.

- 21/4/07 (Da Date!)
At 7.30am, Dearie and I walked into the new house. Opened all windows and doors and turned on all the lights. Dearie hung up the red cloth while I tried to bring the charcoal to fire. Tried for 1/2 hour to no avail :( Was getting a little panic until we saw help ariving, a.k.a the lady who claims she's got a way to make the charcoal light up. Missie Xzan girl came, broke the charcoal to small pieces and brought the stand fan to blow it to fire!! WAH! Keng, I tell u!! This was what we did..

At 8.45am, Dearie, Me and Xzan took turns to walk over the burning charcoal into the
house to mark the official moving-in. After each of us walked over the burning fire, we brought the charcoal to the kitchen and boiled a huge pot of "tong sui" with it. It took us almost 4 hours to cook the Tong Sui and when it was ready, everyone (us, Xzan & DiMi) of us had a bowl (this significe sweetness and togetherness amongst family members) .. Yummy :) And well, that's the whole process. Simple and nice :)

At night, had dinner with the rest of the family/relatives (and this round we've included Dearie's sis & family from Cheras). The entire clan didn't know why we called for dinner and we didn't reveal the reason of the gathering until everyone arrived. When I announced that it was our moving-in date for the new house, there was quite abit of hoo-haa from all the relatives as they were asking why didn't we inform them earlier so that they could get ready the gifts for us. Well, that's the purpose we didn't inform them earlier maa.. so that they wouldn't need/have to get us anything.. :)

Adjourned to the new house after dinner and had alot of fun chit-chatting and showing away our new home :) The house was filled with laughter and "yan hei" and we received really positive comments from everyone who came.

Well, the house is 90% done up now. Kitchen cabinets will be coming on 2/5/07 and with that, I think we'll be really quite comfortable there. The next important thing would be to shop for the right cabinet to serve as the alter for "Kuan Yin".. some soft touch ups here and there and walaa!! Our new HoMe is finally ready :)
