City Survival for Ladies
Attended this 1/2 day talk organized by the company for lady staff. I am not the type who feels that short seminars like that would make a difference to our lives but this talk prooved me wrong and I'm glad it did.
Conducted by Captain K.Bala, a super qualified guy who's the founder of Osh Dynamic S/B and a few other non-charitable, volunteer bodies. He was the guy that saved the indonesian maid who climbed down the apartment using old rags and was also the guy who volunteered to go save the flood victims in Johore and during the flash floods in KL recently.
The seminar conducted by Capt. Bala was short, interesting and informative at the same time. It shows how naive and ignorant ladies are nowadays and how prone we are to crime whenever we are. He also manage to convince all the attendees that no where's save in this world and we should always be on a look-out as there are too many sick people waiting to strike anytime.
There were too many tips that he gave away during the 5-hour session. I cant seem to possibly write everything here. Those that I remember would be as follows:-
1) Never display the company / brand of your house-alarm on the box located outside the house as it invites and informs thieves on what tools they should bring;
2) Contrary to popular belief (and what we read in emails), when someone with weapon approaches you for your wallet, NEVER throw it far away and think the culprit will just obediantly head for the wallet. Researches show that this trick will trigger anger and the thief will just slash you before picking up your belonging;
3) Always carry a pepper spray wherever you go. Never try to outrun the culprit or fight him as guys are mostly stronger than us and they would almost always have weapon with them. The proven way to stop any rape/bulglary would be to act as if you're having epilepsy. Go watch some movies on how an epileptic person look like when they have attacks. Having such acting skill might just save your life;
4) When police raid a place where you're at and if you're required to do the urine test, ALWAYS hold on to the urine sample coz if someone that is tested positive acidentally swaps the bottle with yours, you're in for big trouble! Only let go of your urine bottle upon having the police test it in front of your eyes;
5) NEVER allow anyone that claims to be a police to search you/your belongings EVEN if he/she is in uniform! Always request to look at their ID and enquire why they want to conduct the search. If they mumble and ask you to walk to an alley, drive off and report it to the nearest station;
6) Should someone be raped, REMEMBER>> SHE DOES NOT NEED TO GO TO THE POLICE STATION to be questioned as if she was in the wrong! Head directly to a government hospital. Police officers would be on standby there as well. Do not bathe a victim as evidence would be washed away.
7) When going on a taxi, always inform a friend/relative on what taxi you're on (color of taxi, number plate, name of drive). If possible, call someone to inform where you are and what time you'll be arriving so that the waiting party know when to aspect you and should you not arrive during the stipulated time, knows what actions to take;
8) At the ATM, never count your cash at the machine! So what if the machine gave you RM450 instead of RM500, are you going to ask the machine for the balance that didn't come out?! Therefore, just take the cash, REMEMBER to take the receipt, and walk off. If possible, look sad and shake your head when leaving the machine. That will give the on-lookers an impression that you have no money! (hhahaha)
9) The best part to strike the attacker is at the SHIN BONE and NOT the groin! Culprits know that female would hit the croatch as it has been circulating round. Smart attackers nowadays would protect their birdie before attempting an attack. And sometimes, when being attacked, we're not at the right position to hit THERE! But if it's the shin bone, we can just simply kick and it would hit the shin! The next most vulnerable spot would be the nose! Knock hard the attackers nose with your head and you'll be released!
10) Finally, ALWAYS TRUST YOUR HEART. If your heart feels uncomfortable about you doing something, there must be a reason behind it. Though it cant be explained, it's best if you take precaution and follow the instinct. You can NEVER be too careful!
Alright. If you are some HRian in your company or if you're some big shot in your company, PLS do consider conducting this talk for your female colleagues. Such awareness does a great deal in saving lifes!
